A trip down Memory Lane

Let's see... Did guard duty last night, and while walking down the long stretch of road in my camp, memories of Saturday, 14th February 2004 surfaced in my mind. Valentine's Day.

Well... To me, that night was special - nah, magical... After all, being able to spend it with someone you love would have been a blessing for anyone. I was one of those lucky souls... At that time, at least.

My date was my classmate... Someone I had taken a fancy to since... I first saw the class. Let's call her A. Of course, it was pretty much a natural progression for me to want to get to know her better, so by the end of the first year, we were pretty close.

We had agreed to attend a dinner at her church, which was specially organised for Valentine's Day, together with her friend (whom I also knew, although not too well). Earlier in the day she was playing tour guide to a group of Japanese students, so in the meantime I asked another classmate out (let's call her J) to shop with me for a present and flowers.

Sidenote: On the streets (yet) another classmate, who was on a date of his own, spotted me and J together and automatically assumed the obvious. Fortunately enough we managed to clear that up lol. Imagine the amount of gossip that would have otherwise sprouted.

Back to where we were... So yeah, I decided on a teddy bear and a rose, and so was all set to meet my date. The dinner was pretty good and the place was nicely decorated with a good ambience... But it wasn't the best part of the evening yet.

Before I met up with A, J had gone off to meet up with her other friends, so after dinner, we decided to go look for J in town. Her friend left at this point, so it was just me and her.

So we took an MRT to Somerset thinking that they were at Cineleisure, but by the time we got there, they had gone to PS =/ So we had to take a short walk along the streets. Now, this short walk wasn't anything out of the ordinary, But to me, it was when I felt closest to her... Maybe it was the fact that it was the quiet path; maybe, it was the small talk that we made about how the earlier part of the day went for her. I don't, and probably won't know. But this walk would be kept in my memory for a long time to come... It was my walk to remember.

Sadly... The end of that night was also the end of my Cinderella tale... The next few months weren't too easy, but we remained friends in the end, however different circumstances were. We weren't as close from then on, but nonetheless, I'm confident enough to say that I'm happy that she's found her partner.

So girl, take care and I wish you only the best.

Something Stupid - Frank Sinatra

I know I'd stand in line until you think
You have the time to spend an evening with me
And if we go someplace to dance I know
That there's a chance you won't be leaving with me.

And afterwards we'd drop into a quiet little place
To have a drink or two
And then I'd go and spoil it all
By saying something stupid like I love you.

I can see it in your eyes that you despise
The same old lies you heard the night before
And though it's just a line to you
For me it's true and never seemed so right before.

I practice everyday to find some clever lines
To say, to make the meaning come true
But then I think I'll wait until
The evening's gettin' late and I'm alone with you.

The time is right, your perfume fills my head
The stars get red and all the night's so blue
And then I'd go and spoil it all
By saying something stupid like I love you.

The time is right, your perfume fills my head
The stars get red and all the night's so blue
And then I'd go and spoil it all
By saying something stupid like I love you.

And when I'd go and spoil it all
By saying something stupid like I love you...
