I went for Corrinne May's Beautiful Seed concert last night. Truthfully speaking, words and expressions won't do enough to describe the feeling and experience of hearing her live. She might sound as she does on her CDs, but seeing the face with the voice, accompanied by live music, makes it surreal.
During her previous concert last year, she sang a few new songs (On My Way and Five Loaves and Two Fishes were some.), which got me really anxious about when she was releasing her next CD. I particularly liked On My Way, especially since it was backed up by a choir. Well, now that I've got her latest CD, I'm a happy man =)
She performed all the songs from her new album, as well as Angel In Disguise, Fly Away, Everything In Its Time and Save Me. I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. Fly Away was really special to me, because I think it's her most touching song, and hearing it live was really a dream come true for me. As usual, she also told some short stories about herself or shared some thoughts as an introduction to the song she was performing next. She was trying to be humorous as well, which earned some laughter from us. It did lend a really personal touch to the whole thing, though.
I hope more people get to know and enjoy her music. Her songs always sound so simple, so everyday, and so human. Anyone can easily relate to her lyrics as they encompass everyday situations and struggles that most people try to contend with. That's the biggest reason why I like her songs.
Her new album, Beautiful Seed, officially releases on the 6th of August. Do get it!
On My Way - Corrinne May
I'm far away from what I've known
And there's static on the radio
Just a girl in a car on a lonely highway
I've been up and down this winding road
It's getting dark, the stores are closed
The map is wrinkled,
My coffee's turned to grey
But I'm on my way,
I'm on my way
There seems to be no end in sight,
But I know I'll be alright
'Cos I'm on my way,
I'm on my way
Sweet embrace
I'm on my way
So many beat-up cars on this dirt road
I see them sputter and start to choke,
How many miles must I go
Till I rest in Your grace
I feel like giving up and letting go
Let the world invade my mind, my soul
Will this road make me,
A sinner or a saint
But I'm on my way,
I'm on my way
There seems to be no end in sight
But I know I'll be alright
'Cos I'm on my way
I'm on my way
Don't give up on me
I'm on my way
I can picture your smiling face
Your arms stretched to hold me
Waiting there by the gate
And if I ever get lost
I know that you'll find me
There's a cross on a hill saying
"Do not be afraid."
(I'm on my way)
I'm on my way (I'm on my way)
If I keep you in my sight
I know I'll be alright
'Cos I'm on my way,
I'm on my way
There seems to be no end in sight
But I know I'll be alright
'Cos I'm on my way
I'm on my way
Don't give up on me
I'm on my way
I'm on my way
